Happy Wednesday my friend!
If you hear a screeching alert go off on your cell phone – and everyone else’s cell phone – today at around 8:20am (2:20pm EST), don’t panic.
According to CNN the federal government will conduct a nationwide test this morning of its Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts.
All wireless phones should receive an alert and an accompanying text message that reads: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
Meanwhile, all radios and televisions will also broadcast a test emergency alert at the same time as part of the broader test. This message, which will run for approximately one minute, will state: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
The tests will start rolling out nation-wide over the course of 30 minutes, starting at 8:20am HST.
The Takeway
It's good that they test these systems. With the rising threat of climate change and cyber warfare, a national emergency could soon be at our doorstep. Best to be prepared.

Stay safe out there.
