Happy Friday
It's Halloween and you'd better bet your pumpkins that the scammers have thought of ways to take advantage of it. Beware of Halloween themed phishing emails.
Just like last year, there's been a sharp spike in Halloween-themed spam, mirroring the shopping frenzy and anticipation leading up to Halloween. Cybercriminals are trying to exploit last minute shoppers in search of deals, costumes and party supplies.
Around 40% of these spam emails are malicious and try to trick you into installing malware, handing over login credentials or sending money for phony purchases.
These scam emails are usually disguised as giveaways and goodie baskets from well-known retailers. If you click on any links in them, you'll be led to a look-alike website designed to harvest your personal information and money.
So, if you or someone you know gets an email today promising last minute costume deals, decorations or party supplies for same day pickup from a major retailer, be careful! It's likely a scam.
Have a happy and safe Halloween!
