Happy Friday
The Cybercriminals are at it again. They're using Eventbrite, one of the Internet's top event management and ticketing sites to deliver scam emails. Since July, these attacks have been so effective that they've increased by 25% week over week, resulting in a staggering growth rate of over 900% so far. Here's why the bad guys are succeeding with this scam:
1) Emails from Eventbrite are trusted – Because Eventbrite is a known, legitimate entity, these emails are often delivered directly to inboxes without being flagged as suspicious.
2) Phishing content is highly convincing – The scammers craft their emails to impersonate legitimate businesses, such as postal services, financial institutions, and utility companies.
Here's what one looks like:
The Takeaway These emails urge you to act quickly—reset your bank PIN, “verify” your delivery address, pay a bill, cover package fees, and so on. The urgency is intentional and serves as a major red flag. If you click the link in one of these emails, you’ll be sent to a look-alike of a legitimate site, where you’ll be prompted to enter personal information, such as your phone number, credit card details, or login credentials.
Here’s the #1 takeaway tip: Don’t click on any links in Eventbrite emails that aren’t for events! Your bank, DHL, the post office, or the power company will never reach out via Eventbrite.
Unfortunately, because Eventbrite allows users to add any email address to an event, there’s no easy way to prevent criminals from abusing the platform. It’s up to us to stay alert and not fall for these scams.
Stay safe out there.

New Friday Funnies A scammer called my grandma and said he had all her passwords.
She got a pen and paper and said 'thank god for that, what are they?'
