Beware of free offers from SpaceX & OpenAI

The cybercriminals are at it again, this time cashing in on the hype around AI. They're creating fake events from big names like OpenAI and SpaceX, offering free AI tools and "exclusive access." The catch? It's all just a trick to steal your Microsoft or Google login credentials.

And these scams are getting harder to spot. The invitations look legitimate, the websites look professional and the sign-in pages look just like the real thing. Some of these attacks are even able to slip past multi-factor authentication (MFA), that extra layer of security we count on to keep our accounts safe.

Once inside your account, hackers can read emails, steal sensitive files and even impersonate you to trick coworkers and customers. And because those messages appear to coming from you, it can spread quickly. One careless click could open the door to a much bigger problem.

The Takeaway

1. Free isn't always free. That "exclusive" AI event or free premium subscription might come with a hidden price. Verify the offer before clicking.

2. Think before you sign in. Don't use your work Microsoft or Google account on unfamiliar sites without checking first. A famous logo doesn't make a website trustworthy.

3. When in doubt, speak up. Something doesn't feel right? Let your IT team know. Even if you've already clicked, reporting it quickly can make all the difference.

Cybersecurity isn't just about technology. It's about people like us looking out for one another. Together we can make the world a safer place!

Stay safe out there.
