Sunstones -- A Family Legacy
The OREGON SUNSTONE, was declared
the official Gemstone of the State of Oregon in 1987. Our Stones come from
the original site where these beautiful stones were first discovered in
Oregon. Sunstones were created in the "shifting sand" of the Rabbit Hills
located in the high desert of Southeastern Oregon near the small town of
Plush in Warner Valley. The mineral content of the Oregon Sunstone differs
from feldspar found any place else in the world...thus making it an extremely
rare gemstone. Currently OREGON SUNSTONES are found in three locations
in the state... and our stones are unique because they come from the original
discovery site.
Historians confirm that it was
from this location that Native Americans collected Sunstones to use for
"barter" with other Native American tribes. As early as the 1930's Sunstones
were sold as "Plush Diamonds!" In 1953 Joe Banasco began in earnest marketing
the stones to rock hounds and became known as the "Sunstone King."
Our Grandmother, Alice Jones, was
the first white child born in Warner Valley ... our parents, Joe Banasco
and Edith Laird, were among the first to file Sunstone claims in the area..
and we, their children and grandchildren, are proud to share with you a
precious part of our family legacy... a genuine OREGON SUNSTONE.
We wish you health, happiness, peace
and joy.
